These formations have an incredible variety of shadows, which was something I wanted to explore in wood.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEach frame is composed of 24 individually carved pieces of sugar maple, separated by thin lines of shadow. The process is mostly intuitive and reactive: I will carve one piece with a series of forms, which often sparks an idea for its neighbor.
