I make these floor brooms in pairs because each broom uses two species of wood: maple and walnut. In a set of two brooms, there will be one head and one handle in each species of wood. The lap joint that connects the head to the handle brought to mind a “sistered” joist in house framing, which along with the paired nature of these brooms, inspired the name.

 

Hand made and finished in Portland. Each sweeping head contains 21 individually wrapped bundles of tampico, which is a stiff, yet supple natural sweeping fiber.
