This is an essential non-essential. In my view, the occasion of cake is one to be celebrated and prolonged, by any means necessary. This cake wedge is a lovely implement for distributing slices, and its sculptural handle adds touch to the long list of senses being activated.
The form of the wedge was inspired by a favorite coffee mug of mine, which has the perfect thumb rest in its handle. The handle of the cake wedge also has a thumb rest, which provides comfort and maximum leverage for that hefty slice.
Hand made and finished in Portland with locally-sourced walnut, elm, and sycamore.
